Radio station CJSWCountry: Canada City: Calgary CJSW is a campus and community radio station based in Calgary, Alberta. They broadcast live, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from our studios deep inside the heart of the University of Calgary. Check it out at 90.9 fm, 106.9 cable.
The first student researched, scripted and announced radio program was produced and then aired on CFAC on October 17th, 1955
As commercial FM Radio expanded and adopted progressive rock formats, the challenge for campus stations was to continue to provide and alternative, and stay one step ahead. Conveniently, punk rock and all its successors known as "alternative music" that followed gave campus radio it's definitive sound, and its independant, DIY philosophy. Longtime listeners know that while CJSW blasted the Sex Pistols and the Clash on 101.5 Cable (now still heard on 106.9), commercial radio stations would not even consider playing any of this music until fifteen years later. Jazz, blues, reggae and classical music were also heard daily. 13 April, 2003 - Romislokus was interviewed live on air of CJSW 90.9 FM by Richard Zywotkiewicz, the host 'Attention Surplus Disorder'. Listen radio on-line.
