Radio station Xpress
City: Cardiff, Wales
Xpress Radio was established in 1994 as a student radio society within Cardiff University's Student Union. Working extremely hard with a dedicated team, the first goal of an FM RSL (Restricted Service Licence) was finally achieved during September 1996, when Xpress boradcast to Cardiff for four weeks. Not only has the Radio Society grown since this first temporary licence, but since 1997 the station has applied for two temporary licences a year, one in the autumn and one in the spring and has used these to broadcast throughout Cardiff and the surrounding area on FM, with the exception of autumn 2000 when the request for a licence was refused due to a new commercial station in Cardiff.
Whilst on-air, Xpress reaches a 7 mile radius around Cardiff City Centre.
When not on-air, a you can hear Xpress Radio around the Students' Union - in the union shop, food halls and other open areas - and shows are broadcast for around 6 hours a day. Furthermore, Xpress now has a RealAudio server which allows people around the world to listen via the Internet.
Xpress Radio is a member of the Student Radio Association.
